From intense workouts and busy schedules to stress, poor sleep, inflammation, and the various demands of everyday life—our bodies are often pushed to the limit. At The Space, we believe that recovery shouldn’t be something we just wait for when exhausted or in pain. It’s something we can build into our regular wellness routine—alongside movement, mindfulness, and regular practices that help us reconnect with ourselves.
Come as you are, and leave as you were meant to be with Red Light Therapy at The Space.
What is Red Light Therapy?
Red Light Therapy uses specific wavelengths of red and near-infrared light to stimulate cellular activity and support the body’s natural repair and recovery processes.
Unlike traditional LED light therapy, our system uses a powerful plasma-arc laser technology designed for broad-area treatment and deeper tissue penetration than many LED-based devices. The light interacts with the mitochondria (the energy centres of our cells), supporting the production of ATP—the energy source cells use to function, repair, and regenerate.
In simple terms: More cellular energy = more support for your body’s natural ability to recover.
Why choose The Space’s Red Light Therapy?
Not all Red Light Therapy is created equal. Many devices use small handheld LED panels designed to target specific areas. Our large-coverage Red Light Therapy system uses proprietary plasma-arc laser technology, allowing for:
- Broad-area treatment
- Greater light intensity
- Deeper tissue penetration
- Whole-body support
Our Health Canada Class 2 Medical Device is administered by trained staff in a calm, supportive environment—not a rushed clinical setting. Because healing isn’t just physical. It’s also about how you feel while you’re caring for yourself.
What can I expect during a session?
Each session is 20 minutes. You’ll relax comfortably while the targeted area is exposed to the light. Treatments are gentle, painless, and non-invasive. You may feel warmth during your session, but there is no burning sensation and no downtime afterward.
For best results, Red Light Therapy is cumulative. Many people benefit from a series of treatments, often 2–3 times per week for approximately 6 weeks, followed by maintenance sessions as needed.
How can I see the best results from Red Light Therapy?
Your body is not separate from your mind. That is why Red Light Therapy pairs beautifully with the mindfulness practices we offer at The Space.
Combine Red Light Therapy to illuminate and support cellular recovery with:
- Yoga to improve mobility and strength
- Meditation to calm the nervous system
- Breathwork to reconnect with yourself
Together, these practices create a more holistic approach to physical and mental wellbeing.
Red Light Therapy + Yoga = Recovery for the Whole Person
Red Light Therapy is cumulative; increasing effectiveness through a series of treatments. Depending on the severity of the condition, the optimal treatment time is 2-3 times a week for 6 weeks.

“In my mind’s eye I’m still 17 when I gaze into the mirror, but my body no longer wants to comply. Stiffness and soreness I can stretch away, but the sciatica in my hip is pretty persistent with its daggers down my leg and dull hammer blows across the small of my back. And I sure don’t feel 17 when I’m out walking the dogs with a limp in my stride. Chiropractic, deep tissue massage, even orthotics…I’ve tried it all. Numerous times. And while this regimen worked to lessen the pain numerous times, the agony of my four-decades-old hip continued to quickly reappear and rear its ugly head on walks, standing in the kitchen cooking dinner, and yes, yearning for my youth in front of the mirror. Every time.
I had never heard of red light therapy before, and am still not sure as to how exactly it works, but I can tell you that it does! And its effects are lasting! Impressed by the fact that The Space is only the third location in Western Canada to offer this particular type of treatment (infra-red arc-laser vs the more common hand-held LED devices used in various spas and clinics), I opted to learn a little more about its function and benefits. In less-than-scientific terms, capable of penetrating tissue to a depth of 3 inches, the red light recharges damaged and depleted cells to help stimulate the body’s natural healing systems with no pain, discomfort, or adverse reactions. Good enough for me!
Facedown atop a bed in the studio’s private room, I lay beneath what looked to be a free-standing steel lamp liberated from the set of a Star Trek movie. I have a fairly wide frame, and yet the red light was able to cover both my left and right hips to not only address my inflicted side, but the opposite side as well, in order to account for healthy muscle overcompensation. For the next 20 minutes I felt a little heat, a lot of relaxation, and very little else. When the timer ran out, I slipped back into my pants (I had stripped down to my shorts) and out the door. No fuss and no muss.
The rest of the night was fairly status-quo: My pinched left hip whispered teenager no more with each slow throb down my side and through my lower back. Tender but manageable. I took it easy and tried to pay attention to my body at work.
By the next morning however, the pain was gone! Not just lessened, but gone! Feeling invincible, for the next few days I bid my 17 year old reflection a boisterous good day and foolishly went about my business without my usual, near-subconscious care: a stretch here, a shifting of the weight off my favoured leg there. The dull throb eventually returned, as did the limp, but thankfully the dagger’s bite was no longer sharp.
I’ve since gone back for an additional pair of sessions under the warm glow of the red light machine – and even coupled this with a hot yoga class, and for a few weeks I’ve been pain-free…but even now as I lay on my bad hip and type out this testimonial on my laptop in bed (I always was a stubborn teen) I can feel a familiar sensation pulsating down the nerve — like the memory of your first car’s subwoofer echoing through the streets of time.
The bottom line: I now get why multiple red light therapy sessions (ideally 12) are strongly encouraged. I’m even hip (haha) to the realization that where possible, combining this therapy with yoga and/or meditation and fitness classes at The Space increases its lasting effects and benefits. I have yet to discover if my sciatica will permanently be put to rest, but I can confidently say that you will see results, and likely very quickly. It’s here though that you must resist the urge to end your treatments at the first sight of a pain-free future. Nurture your body. Give it more of what it needs. Try red light therapy at The Space because it works. Try their yoga, meditation, and fitness classes as well, because they work too. Relax, recharge, and repair. Be healed.
I sincerely hope you see the light. Multiple times. Your teenage self will thank you.”

“Red light therapy has truly been a game changer for me. Initially focusing on my wrist, which was affected by nerve damage and arthritis, I quickly noticed a significant improvement in my strength and flexibility. Simple tasks like opening jars, bottles, and holding a coffee cup became much easier, showcasing the positive impact of red light therapy on my overall hand function.
Combining red light therapy with acupuncture has been a transformative experience, with the results being nothing short of remarkable. The difference before and after the sessions on my wrist is like night and day, demonstrating the power of this non-invasive treatment in managing my conditions effectively.
I also underwent 4 sessions targeting my pelvic area to address issues related to extremely heavy periods, excruciating cramps, back pain, and mood swings. The results have exceeded my expectations, as I have observed a significant reduction in the intensity and duration of my periods. Following the treatments, my periods have become more regular, lasting only 5 days instead of 7-10 days, with minimal to no cramps and mood swings.
The benefits of red light therapy have extended beyond my menstrual health. Notably, my C-section incision has begun to fade, demonstrating the therapy’s ability to aid in scar healing. Additionally, I have experienced a noticeable reduction in my waist size, shedding an inch since starting the treatments.
Overall, the holistic approach of combining red light therapy with other treatments has had a profound impact on my physical well-being, providing me with relief from pain, improving my mobility, and positively influencing various aspects of my health. I am grateful for the positive changes I have experienced and look forward to continuing my journey towards enhanced wellness with red light therapy.
If you’re considering red light therapy, I highly recommend exploring its potential benefits for yourself. The results speak for themselves, and the positive impact on both my wrist and pelvic health has been truly transformative.”

“I signed up for RLT for pain from an injury last year involving my jaw, neck and shoulders. I have a physically demanding job, and at the end of my day I can find myself needing to lay down fully to mitigate the pain. I wanted to focus on relieving the pain in the neck from a protruded disc injury and TMJ. The Red light machine was able to position over all of my affected injuries. I even placed my hands over my eyes to see how it would affect the eczema on my knuckles.
Moments after the therapy, my neck felt released, with no pain, and a sensation of my neck having better posture. My TMJ pain was immediately resolved, adding softness and a relaxed jaw. My hands also felt better and softer, with less discolouration. I felt the benefits from this procedure immediately, and after a few days to a week, I found I needed a ‘top up’ session to get me back to the same sensation of relief I experienced from my first session.”

“As a child, I remember recess time at school in which my friends and I would play gymnastics on the grassy field. I used to be able to contort myself like a mini Cirque-de-Soleil performer, bending until I could pull my head between my ankles. Later, in college, one of my nicknames was “Stretchy” – long before I knew anything about hypermobility.
When I was a child, I moved like a child, I dreamed like a child, I celebrated joyfully like a child. Now in my fourth decade, I feel the same inside, but must govern my movements, and resist frustration. Hypermobility of my joints and tissues is the ripe environment for injuries and has resulted in persistent pain setting up home inside me – my constant companion since 2010. Spanning a spectrum from itchiness or dull aching to “electric zinging,” stabbing sensations, and the agony of wanting to rip my left leg off at the pelvis.
For the past 14 years I have sought release from consistent pain and physical discomfort, aware that my usually exuberant appearance does not match what has just been described. So many times, I have told my history of injury and excruciating experiences to various medical practitioners. Could I even list all the treatments I have sampled in search of relief? Multiple machines and modalities from Physiotherapy (including IMS, IFC, TENS, ultrasound, Shockwave, thermal treatments, orthotics), chiropractic adjustments, massage, even spinal decompression – a more humane version of a medieval stretching rack (fortunately, no one suggested leeches as a complimentary service!). The most intense however was Prolotherapy, which spanned an entire year. I went every three weeks to have a combination of dextrose (a simple sugar), saline (sterile salt water), and lidocaine (a numbing agent) injected into my joint spaces. This solution causes an inflammatory reaction in the body, building up tissue around the joints, with the purpose of stabilizing them.
When the opportunity came to try Red Light Therapy (RLT), I was intrigued. My left lower back and right hand had been giving me more acute pain, in addition to the usual daily general body aches and stiffness. I remained optimistic, because I was doing the recommended dose of 12 twenty-minute sessions in a period of six weeks. I hoped to have the penetrating light help heal my tissues, relieve pain, and return strength and function, especially to my arthritic right hand.
The treatment was painless. I lay on my belly, with my right hand draped over the left side of my low back, to treat both areas simultaneously. A soothing warm sensation spread over these areas, and sometimes treatments gave me a flushed feeling throughout my body. No matter my state of being prior to treatments, I always felt a deep calming relaxation during the twenty minutes and often just as I was dozing off, the loud “thunk” of the machine shutting off awoke me with a start!
After the first few sessions, I noticed improvement with my right-hand grip strength, coupled with a small reduction in pain. My left lower back felt good for short periods of time following; however, there was no permanent pain relief, which I attribute due to my hypermobility and the numerous varied activities I participate in.
The most surprising benefit from Red Light Therapy at The Space was one I was not even aware of. I had begun menstruating the day before my seventh treatment, and I was expecting to be in major discomfort. Usually, the first “full” day for me is fraught with a very heavy flow and such intense cramping sensations in my abdomen and pelvis that it is as though someone is scratching me from the inside with a metal wire. I expected my day to progress in the typical manner, but no cramping came. I just experienced an occasional dull ache that ebbed and flowed. I spoke with Cynthia (owner of The Space) about whether reproductive benefits were common, and she mentioned that there were others partaking in RLT that were seeing similar results. I made a mental note of this and was pleasantly surprised to have the following period also almost free of discomfort!
I would recommend RLT. It may help you with whatever issue you wish to treat, but it may help even more with an unexpected one! Thank you to Cynthia and The Space for this great compliment to yoga, meditation, and all the other services offered.”
